Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen said the “funniest thing” that happened on the day of his proposal to Hailee Steinfeld was his now fiancee’s question for him after they woke up.
“[We] were getting ready for brunch and you jumped on the bed and said ‘Can we get married already?!? What are you waiting for??!’” Allen told Steinfeld, an actor and singer, in a Q&A released Friday for her Beau Society newsletter.
Allen, a favorite to win the NFL’s MVP award this season, recalled his response to the “Spider-Man” star: “Just give me a little more time.”
“Little did you know I was about to propose to you,” he added.
Allen, who publicly announced the engagement in a joint Instagram post with Steinfeld last month, spilled on the proposal as he fittingly answered his fiancee’s 17 questions — Allen’s jersey is No. 17 — for the 17th issue of her newsletter.
The couple, who first sparked romance rumors in May 2023 after they were spotted together in New York City, went Instagram official back in July when Allen shared a photo carousel that included a sweet snap from a trip to Paris.
Allen, in his Q&A with Steinfeld, said that he was “very nervous” on the day of the proposal.
“I think I was most nervous about you finding out,” Allen said. “It was hard to keep secrets from you and have other people in your life keep secrets from you.”
He continued, “Then multiple times throughout the day a song would come on and I would tear up thinking about how special our day was going to be.”
The NFL star used one word to describe how he felt after the proposal: “relieved.”
“I didn’t blow it nor did anyone else. You were extremely surprised, you said yes, and that was all that mattered to me. And the sun was out,” said Allen, who called it “unbelievable to be engaged to someone who is so special and loving and caring and gorgeous and fun and happy.”
